“Resin Sculpture I JMMF Award”

STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE

The resin wave was sculpted from a five-gallon bucket of waste from the glassing room at Barahona Surfboards. It was made for the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation and presented to the recipient of the Pure Surfing Experience Award for 2023.

 

PERSONAL CONNECTION 

I originally met Chip while he was working at Gallery 208 in Manhattan Beach,where you could tell that he was a wealth of information about South Bay surfinghistory, the local art scene and his influences ran deep. His works were on display at the gallery and after our brief conversation, knew that I had to include him in this years Surf Art Calendar.

 

ARTIST BIO

Chip Herwegh is a native Angelino and South Bay local. He has a lifelong love affair with the history, geography, and societal archives of his hometown. His work is anchored by moments in time and evocative settings that he has been documenting over decades. His Art is steeped in the culture of Southern California. He draws inspiration from LA’s post-war Artists and explores the use of material in new and unexpected ways.
