2023 Surf Art Calendar

August

“Resin Beach”

By: Quenby Ravenwood

STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE

From the Artist: This piece was obviously inspired by the beautiful SoCal beaches, but it’s so much more important to me than that. I incorporated different mediums I’d never played with before and really enjoyed slowly creating and learning from this project over a period of a few weeks. It’s dear to my heart because I see so much growth and deeper understanding, and feel so much gratitude, every time I look at it

PERSONAL CONNECTION

Every year as I get ready to engage with artists for the Surf Art Calendar, I let luck and the universe be my guide to find them. My goal is to showcase not only original painting and photography, but also sculpture and beach inspired pieces. So, one random evening while walking my dog Shiloh, I noticed the unique resin art my neighbor Quenby was creating in her garage and introduced myself. She was working away, not a care in the world with her music blasting, totally immersed in her art and was more than happy to share the resin and wood designs she had created.

What I love about this piece is how she incorporated the sand, shells and other materials to set the beach scene. Unfortunately, the photograph doesn’t do it justice, but in person the piece allows for light to shine through giving it a 3rd dimension. Quenby has a positive spirit and beautiful outlook that shines through in her art and personality. I am very happy to share this labor of love with y’all, so please support her talents and visit her art gallery on Instagram @qsbeachshop

ARTIST BIO

Quenby is an Oregon native now loving Manhattan Beach life. She began her artistic journey a little later than most, and through a unique path… She found it through medicine.

Quenby studied nursing at Oregon Health & Sciences University and worked for years in critical care and surgical medicine. And although very successful in the medical/nursing world, she always felt like she was missing an artistic outlet. Then she found aesthetics. For many years Quenby was known to say, “My canvas is the natural beauty of my patients’ faces.” And for the past 7 years, she has been enjoying the success of her first business, Quenby’s Aesthetics & Wellness in Lake Oswego, OR.

During the pandemic, Q finally had the time and freedom to expand her artistic outlets, and she quickly fell in love with resin beach art. She is currently transitioning from her Oregon life/career to living full time as a SoCal beach artist 😎🤘
